Guilford County is reminding residents to take precautions during periods of extreme heat to reduce the risk of heat-related illness, injury and death.Extreme heat events occur when temperatures remain significantly above average for several consecutive days. Children, older adults, and individuals with underlying health conditions are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
The Guilford County Family Justice Center Elder Justice Committee (EJC) was honored recently by the North Carolina Department Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Division of Aging and Adult Services with the Dorothy R. Guilford County is pleased to announce Aaron Brown as the new Budget Director.In his role as Budget Director, Brown will work closely with the County Manager’s office to oversee the development and administration of the county’s annual budget and capital improvement plan, ensuring fiscal sustainability, operational efficiency, and alignment with the county’s strategic priorities. Additionally, he will develop revenue projections, oversee countywide grants and community-based organization funding initiatives, and manage the operations and staff of the Budget Department.

The program's application period will first open to residents ages 65 and older, beginning Wednesday, July 15, and will then expand to all eligible residents on Sunday, Aug. 16.
In honor of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, the Guilford County Division of Social Services (DSS) is hosting a “Be Bold, Age with Attitude” Resource Fair on Thursday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held in the DSS parking lot at 1203 Maple St. in Greensboro.The resource fair will feature more than 40 vendors and agencies serving aging adults and individuals. Attendees can access a wide range of resources, including free health screenings, mobile health units, and a variety of local food trucks.

Guilford County Animal Services will host a black-tie-themed adoption event celebrating adoptable black cats and dogs on Thursday, June 4, at the Guilford County Animal Resource Center.The “Black Tail Adoption Event” will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the animal shelter, 980 Guilford College Road, Greensboro.Community members are encouraged to dress up for the event and help spotlight black pets, which are often overlooked in shelters.
