The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health is alerting Guilford County residents that a skunk on Haw River Road in Kernersville tested positive for the rabies virus on June 23, 2026. This is the tenth confirmed case of animal rabies in 2026.

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a Special Meeting for Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 4:00PM in the Commissioners Chamber located on the second floor of the Old County Courthouse, 301 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC. Guilford County has appointed Kimberly Slusher as Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective Thursday, June 18.Slusher has served as deputy director of the county's Finance Department since 2020. She brings more than 24 years of experience in local government and public education finance. Prior to joining Guilford County, she served as CFO for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and as fiscal director for Guilford Child Development.
Guilford County is actively monitoring North Carolina Senate Bill 889 (SB 889), which would impose a moratorium on the 2026 property tax reappraisal. The bill was approved by the North Carolina General Assembly on Wednesday, June 10, and is currently pending the Governor's review.If finalized, the moratorium will affect the assessed property values used during the Fiscal Year 2026-27 (FY2027) budget process. County staff are reviewing the potential impacts and preparing revisions to the recommended budget as needed.
The Guilford County Family Justice Center (FJC) has named High Point Police Department Detective Paul Mustian, of the Special Victims Unit, the recipient of the 2026 Sergeant Dale Nix Partner of the Year Award. Children, older adults, and individuals with underlying health conditions are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
