The Guilford County Low-Income Homeowner Assistance Grant will be available for all eligible homeowners starting Sunday, Aug. 16.The grant first opened to residents ages 65 and older on Wednesday, July 15. From Sunday, Aug. 16 to Saturday, Oct. 31, qualifying residents will be able to apply for the grant. 
Today, in partnership with Guilford County District Courts and Court Support for Families, Guilford County is expanding its Legal Support Center to the Greensboro Courthouse, 201 S. Eugene St., Room LG60. The Center opened its first site at the High Point Courthouse in July 2025.
The Guilford County Health and Human Services Agency - Department of Public Health is encouraging residents to take simple steps to reduce their risk of West Nile virus infection as mosquito activity increases during warmer months.West Nile virus is carried by wild birds and can be transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. It does not spread from person to person.
Guilford County property owners can now view and pay their 2026 tax bills online before notices arrive via the U.S. Postal Service the week of August 10. Those who pay their bill by Monday, Aug. 31, will be granted a 1% discount. Bills unpaid after Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027, are considered delinquent.Payment is accepted in the form of cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card, either online or pay-by-phone through the "Pay It" portal, via the Drop Box or at the counter at the Greensboro or High Point Tax Offices, or through the U.S. Postal Service.Payment Options:

Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) is currently caring for more than 700 animals, one of the highest point-in-time animal populations in the facility’s history, impacting the department's resources.Due to the overwhelming number of animals in care, the shelter is experiencing extended wait times of two to three hours for individuals bringing in owner surrenders. This temporary delay ensures that each animal receives proper intake evaluation, medical attention, and safe housing.
The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health is alerting Guilford County residents that a raccoon on Water Street in Greensboro tested positive for the rabies virus on August 4, 2026. This is the eleventh confirmed case of animal rabies in 2026.
The Guilford County Department of Social Services Placement and Licensing Unit (DSS), in partnership with the Deuterman Law Group, is hosting a Back-to-School Supply Giveaway and Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the DSS Greensboro Office, 1203 Maple St. in Greensboro. Eugene St. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the center will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
Local educators interested in engaging students with hands-on experiences through learning about gardening are invited to apply for the Guilford County Extension Master Gardener℠ School Garden Grant. The funding supports starting a school garden, revitalizing a previously abandoned school garden, or improving/expanding an existing school garden.
