This July, Guilford County Parks and Recreation invites residents and visitors to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month, which highlights the important role parks and recreation play in building stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities. The month is also meaningful for the Parks team because it celebrates the department’s increased focus on recreation, now reflected in its name.
As families prepare for the upcoming school year, the Guilford County Division of Public Health welcomes parents and guardians of rising kindergarteners through twelfth graders to get an early start on required back-to-school immunizations.Any student may receive the required immunizations by appointment at Guilford County Public Health clinic locations in Greensboro (1100 East Wendover Avenue) and High Point (501 East Green Drive) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 336-641-3245 to schedule an appointment.
The Guilford County Division of Public Health will host “From Bump to Baby Bliss,” a community event offering income-based pregnancy testing and maternity care services from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 at the Guilford County Division of Public Health High Point Clinic (501 East Green Drive).
The Guilford County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt an $889,196,646 General Fund Budget for the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 (FY2027) during a called special meeting, Thursday, June 25. The Board of Commissioners’ adopted budget adjusts the property tax rate to 78.95 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, an increase of 5.9 cents. The budget reflects our ability to address five core budget principles: 
In honor of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, Guilford County Social Services is hosting an Elder Abuse Awareness Resource Fair on Thursday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held in the DSS parking lot at 1203 Maple St. in Greensboro.The resource fair will feature more than 40 vendors and agencies serving aging adults and individuals. Attendees can access a wide range of resources, including free health screenings, mobile health units, and a variety of local food trucks.
The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health is alerting Guilford County residents that a skunk on Haw River Road in Kernersville tested positive for the rabies virus on June 23, 2026. This is the tenth confirmed case of animal rabies in 2026.
The Guilford County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a Special Meeting for Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 4:00PM in the Commissioners Chamber located on the second floor of the Old County Courthouse, 301 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC.  The purpose of the Special Meeting is to consider and adopt the FY 2026-27 budget; hold a Closed Session pursuant to N.C.G.S 143-318.11 (a) (1) (3)&(6); and conduct any other necessary business.The Board reserves the right to take action on any properly noticed items.
Guilford County has appointed Kimberly Slusher as Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective Thursday, June 18.Slusher has served as deputy director of the county's Finance Department since 2020. She brings more than 24 years of experience in local government and public education finance. Prior to joining Guilford County, she served as CFO for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and as fiscal director for Guilford Child Development.
Guilford County is actively monitoring North Carolina Senate Bill 889 (SB 889), which would impose a moratorium on the 2026 property tax reappraisal. The bill was approved by the North Carolina General Assembly on Wednesday, June 10, and is currently pending the Governor's review.If finalized, the moratorium will affect the assessed property values used during the Fiscal Year 2026-27 (FY2027) budget process. County staff are reviewing the potential impacts and preparing revisions to the recommended budget as needed.
The Guilford County Family Justice Center (FJC) has named High Point Police Department Detective Paul Mustian, of the Special Victims Unit, the recipient of the 2026 Sergeant Dale Nix Partner of the Year Award. Detective Mustian was selected by the FJC’s VOICES Committee, a group of survivor advocacy partners, in recognition of his commitment to supporting survivors and strengthening collaboration among partner agencies.
