Guilford County, the Town of Pleasant Garden, and community partners invite all county residents to participate in the Pleasant Garden Community Recycling Event on Saturday, March 14, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Pleasant Garden Community Center, 5024 Alliance Church Rd.
The event is part of one of four community recycling events that Guilford County Environmental Services hosts per year. In addition to accepting hard-to-recycle items, and personal documents for shredding, the event will also feature a Medication Take-Back station hosted by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) and a Food Drive hosted by A Simple Gesture. This event is free and open to all Guilford County residents. Business waste will not be accepted.
The Medication Take-Back station will offer the community a safe way to dispose of unwanted or expired medications including prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine. Proper disposal of medications can help prevent addictions, overdoses, deaths and prevent environmental pollution. Bottled prescriptions, loose pills, creams, and vitamins will be accepted. Liquids will not be accepted. Needles and sharps are not typically accepted; however, if there is a need to dispose of needles/sharps, they may be dropped off when properly capped and placed in small plastic boxes or containers. For more information, contact GCSO Public Information Officer Bria Evans at bevans2@guilfordcountync.gov or call 336-641-2752.
The Food Drive will collect non-perishable food items, including canned and dry goods. Donated food will be distributed to local food pantries in Guilford County. Accepted donations include canned foods such as tuna, vegetables, beans, fruit, soups and chili, tomato sauce, and 12 oz. baby formula. Boxed foods such as cereal, oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, as well as bags of rice and beans are gladly accepted. Residents may also donate snacks, including crackers, granola bars, unsweetened applesauce, and 100% juice boxes. Stage 2 baby formula, peanut butter, jelly, and pasta sauce will be accepted. Glass jars will not be accepted. For more information, contact Rebecca Conway at rebecca@asimplegesturegso.org or call (336) 458-8173.
