The Guilford County Division of Public Health advises residents to confirm that they and their family members are up to date on immunizations as measles cases rise nationwide. Once eliminated in the United States in 2000, measles has re-emerged due to declining vaccination rates. Vaccinations are safe, effective, and remain the best way to prevent serious illness, hospitalization, and death from respiratory viral infections and from vaccine-preventable infections like measles.
The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health is alerting Guilford County residents that a skunk on NC 61S in Whitsett tested positive for the rabies virus on January 30, 2026. This is the fifth confirmed case of animal rabies in 2026.
The virtual public information meeting on the Guilford County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.The Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies and assesses regional hazard risks for natural disasters and identifies strategies to minimize or manage those risks. Residents are encouraged to attend the virtual meeting to learn about the plan, ask questions, and submit comments for review, consideration, and potential modification of the plan. Budget Director Toy Beeninga is Guilford County’s new Deputy County Manager. In this new role, he will serve as a key leader in the organization, providing strategic oversight for cross-departmental, inter-local and regional projects in economic development, capital and infrastructure planning, district court collaboration, non-profit engagement, legislative affairs and the County’s strategic plan.
