Guilford County Celebrates National County Government Month

Guilford County will celebrate National County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to showcase how the county supports residents and builds healthy, safe, and vibrant communities.

County departments provide core and essentials services to support public safety, health and human services to keep residents across the county healthy and secure.

  • In FY24-25, Emergency Medical Services responded to 80,930 calls.
  • In 2025, the Sheriff’s Office responded to more than 25,000 calls.
  • In FY24-25, Animal Services processed 3,282 pet adoptions and vaccinated than 700 animals.
  • Throughout FY24-25, Public Health assisted more than 13,900 clients. The agency administered over 12,000 vaccines.
  • During FY24-25, Social Services processed more than 48,900 Medicaid applications and over 115,760 recertifications. The agency also processed more than 49,800 FNS applications and over 44,000 FNS recertifications.
  • During this same period, the Family Justice Center served 13,034 clients.
  • In FY24-25, NC Cooperative Extension - Guilford County Center offered 395 educational training courses and workshops of which nearly 10,243 residents attended.
  • The county’s park system encompasses seven regional parks, 12 passive parks, over 30 miles of trails and greenways, and more than 4,500 acres of open space. In FY24-25, more than 1.1 million people visited Guilford County Parks.
  • In FY24-25, Veterans Services assisted over 7,600 clients.
  • The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Department assisted 106 businesses and residents and helped 48 businesses get HUB certified during FY24-25.
  • In FY24-25, the Register of Deeds office processed more than 7,700 passport applications and over 3,200 marriage licenses. The Register of Deeds office assisted approximately 120,000 real estate customers during FY24-25.
  • In 2025, the Board of Elections processed more than 17,800 new voter registrations. The Board also supports 389,000 registered voters annually.
  • The County Manager’s Office and Budget Department manages a balanced county budget of $847.3 million for FY25-26.

Since 1991, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has encouraged counties across the country to raise public awareness about county roles and responsibilities during National County Government Month in the month of April.

“Guilford County is proud of the programs and services we provide to our residents all across the county,” said Board Chair Melvin “Skip” Alston. “This April, we invite residents to engage with their local county government by attending the various events our departments are hosting, including our annual budget town halls and livability forums to connect with their local elected leaders, learn and engage with the budget process, and learn more about the role and services of Guilford County.”

Throughout April, Guilford County departments will recognize National County Government Month through various engaging activities. The Board of Commissioners will host Budget Town Halls and Livability Forums throughout April. During the annual budget town halls, residents are invited to share their input on the county’s funding priorities.

Residents are also invited to attend the Prevent Child Abuse Wellness Resource Fair hosted by Social Services on Saturday, April 11, and the Black Maternal Health Week 2026: Walk & Family Day hosted by Public Health’s Every Baby Guilford program on Saturday, April 11. Community members can join the Family Justice Center in observing Denim Day on Wednesday, April 29 , to raise awareness about sexual violence and support survivors.
