Guilford County invites all county residents to participate in the Spring Recycling Event on Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to noon, at Eastern Guilford Middle School, 435 Peeden Drive, Gibsonville, NC. The event will also feature a Medication Take-Back station hosted by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) and a Food Drive hosted by A Simple Gesture.
The State of North Carolina Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service (DEACS) mandates, under NC General Statute, that local government shall offer a program for the collection of items banned from landfill disposal, including, but not limited to, white goods (appliances), electronics, and scrap tires. The collected items are then sent to North Carolina State-regulated recyclers, who properly recycle them. The Guilford County Scrap Tire and White Goods Collection Facility, which accepts white goods (appliances), electronics, and scrap tires, is located at 2138 Bishop Rd and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., year-round, except on certain holidays.
Guilford County also offers four special community recycling events where residents can bring their white goods (appliances), electronics, and scrap tires on a Saturday to a designated pop-up drop-off site. These Saturday special events are drive-through, allowing residents to remain in their cars while staff and volunteers assist with unloading accepted items at each station. At these special events, residents can also bring foam, cardboard and plastic bags, documents for shredding, unused or old medications for proper disposal, and unused non-perishable food for donation to local food pantries in Guilford County.
As a note, all electronics, including computers and cell phones, that are collected and may store data are sent to a recycler, which is also regulated by the State for proper, certified handling and destruction of data.
The Spring Recycling Event is free and open to all Guilford County residents. Business waste will not be accepted at these Saturday special Events.
