Guilford County Division of Public Health Sexual Health Action Group, alongside local HIV/STI community partner Triad Health Project, will provide a series of no-cost events in observance of World AIDS Day beginning on Monday, December 1.
Since 1988, December 1 has been globally recognized as World AIDS Day—a day dedicated to raising awareness, supporting the nearly 40.8 million people living with HIV globally, and honoring the more than 44.1 million lives lost to HIV/AIDS.
The World Health Organization joins partners and communities to commemorate World AIDS Day 2025 under the theme, “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.” This year’s observance underscores the need for sustained political leadership, strengthened international collaboration, and human-rights-centered approaches to end AIDS by 2030.
“Every year around December 1, we gather to honor those who have lost their lives from HIV-related illnesses and to strengthen access to HIV/STI services for our community members,” said Kaleigh Rhodes, Program Supervisor, Guilford County Division of Public Health. “World AIDS Day reminds us that the fight is not finished. Real progress depends on our continued efforts to break stigma and ensure everyone receives the care and treatment they need.”
