For the ninth consecutive year, the Guilford County Family Justice Center (FJC) will host Camp HOPE America – North Carolina, Guilford County, a nationally recognized, evidence-based camping and mentoring program for children impacted by violence and abuse.
Camp HOPE’s mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence through team building, evidence-informed programming, and high-adventure, challenge-by-choice activities. Approximately 60 youth are expected to attend the six-day, five-night overnight camp from Sunday, Aug. 10, through Friday, Aug. 15, at YMCA Camp Weaver, located at 4924 Tapawingo Trail in Greensboro. Campers are selected by community partners, including social workers, law enforcement officers, and therapists.
This is the ninth year that the GCFJC will host Camp HOPE. Camp HOPE America, an affiliate of Alliance for HOPE International, focuses on three core elements:
• Challenge-by-Choice activities that encourage personal growth.
• Affirmation and Praise to reinforce positive character traits.
• Small Group Discussions to help children set and pursue personal goals.
This summer, two former campers will serve as HOPE Counselors, leading as mentors and role models for younger participants.
"We are honored to welcome another incredible group of campers to a life-changing week at Camp HOPE,” said FJC Director Catherine Johnson. “For nearly a decade, we’ve witnessed the powerful transformation this program brings—igniting confidence, resilience, and hope in young people who have faced the unimaginable. Through Camp HOPE and our year-round support, we’re not just changing lives—we're changing futures. This impact wouldn’t be possible without the support and dedication of our community partners, donors, counselors, and volunteers. They stand beside us—and these youth—believing in their potential and helping break the cycle of violence. Together, we’re creating community and safe spaces where young survivors can dream big, set meaningful goals, and journey toward hope an healing.”
Funding for Camp HOPE is provided by Guilford County and corporate and community donations, allowing all campers to attend at no cost.
