In response to recent confirmed rabies cases in the Jamestown area, Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) is suspending the intake of healthy cats. This measure is being taken out of an abundance of caution and will remain in effect until further notice. GCAS will continue to accept cats that are sick, injured, or pose a danger to the public.
Residents who suspect a cat may be exhibiting signs of rabies are urged to contact Guilford County Animal Control immediately at 336-641-5990.
As part of its ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure the safety of pets across the county, GCAS will host a free rabies vaccine clinic on Saturday, July 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Jamestown Town Hall, located at 301 E. Main St. One-year rabies vaccinations will be available at no cost to local pet owners.
North Carolina law requires all cats, dogs, and ferrets aged four months and older to be vaccinated against rabies, regardless of whether they live indoors or outdoors
