Guilford County Parks and Recreation invites volunteers to join "The Big Pick," the annual grape harvesting event at the Guilford County Farm, located at 7315 Howerton Rd. in Gibsonville.

This year’s event will take place on two Saturdays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, offering an opportunity for all ages to volunteer. After the grapes are picked, they are donated to local food banks, shelters, and community kitchens.

“The Big Pick brings the community together for two days of volunteering at the Guilford County Farm. Volunteers get to roll up their sleeves and have the opportunity to pick the grapes straight from the farm’s vineyard,” said John Gladstone, Park Supervisor. “Last year was our best harvest to date. With over 190 volunteers, we were able to pick a record 4,100 pounds of fresh muscadine grapes over the two-day event, making 2025 our best Big Pick Ever! We are hoping 2026 can be even bigger!”

No prior experience is needed to participate. Volunteers should dress comfortably for outdoor activities and wear closed-toe shoes. Sunscreen and hats are also recommended to stay safe and comfortable while working outdoors.

To volunteer for "The Big Pick," register at GuilfordCountyNC.gov/BigPick.

Beginning on Sunday, Oct. 4, the vineyard will be open to the public for grape picking for personal use.
