Guilford County is pleased to announce Aaron Brown as the new Budget Director.
In his role as Budget Director, Brown will work closely with the County Manager’s office to oversee the development and administration of the county’s annual budget and capital improvement plan, ensuring fiscal sustainability, operational efficiency, and alignment with the county’s strategic priorities. Additionally, he will develop revenue projections, oversee countywide grants and community-based organization funding initiatives, and manage the operations and staff of the Budget Department.
“We are excited to welcome Aaron as our new Budget Director,” said Victor Isler, Guilford County Manager. “His extensive experience in local government budgeting, financial planning, and strategic resource management makes him an outstanding addition to our leadership team. We are confident in his ability to guide the county’s budget process in a way that promotes fiscal responsibility, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability for our community.”
Brown’s local government experience includes operational and capital budgeting, performance management, business planning, strategic planning, and multi-year forecasting. Prior to joining Guilford County, he worked with Wake County for nearly seven years in various budget roles. During that time, he helped build and implement Wake County’s multi-year financial forecasting model, led the implementation of software systems to streamline the budget development process, served as a liaison to Wake County Schools, and managed the long-range model for the rural fire tax district. Most recently, he served as Budget Manager beginning in June 2023.
“I am honored to join Guilford County as Budget Director and appreciate the opportunity to serve this community,” said Brown. “I look forward to working with the Board of Commissioners, County Manager, leadership staff, and department directors to ensure the county’s resources are managed strategically, responsibly, and in a way that supports long-term priorities and quality services for residents.”
Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in public administration from Clemson University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as treasurer for the North Carolina Local Government Budget Association from 2021 to 2024. He begins his new role on Monday, June 15.
