Area First Responders To Conduct Multi-Agency Active Assailant Exercise

Guilford County
May 5, 2026

Guilford County Emergency Services, in coordination with area law enforcement agencies, city and county fire departments, Guilford Metro 911, and Guilford Technical Community College, will conduct multi-agency active assailant training exercises on May 6, May 7, May 20, and May 21 in the area of Maple Street and Vine Street in Greensboro. All scenarios will take place during normal business hours and inside structures. Coordinated training of this kind is essential to ensuring that responders across multiple agencies can work together seamlessly during a real-world event.

Community members in and around the exercise area should expect to see a large emergency services presence during those dates. Individuals may also hear sounds from the exercise, including simulated gunfire. These are planned training activities and do not indicate any threat to public safety. Signage alerting the public to these activities will also be placed around the area on exercise days.

Members of the media who are interested in covering this training are invited to attend from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. Footage and reporting opportunities will include firsthand observation of the exercise, as well as speaking with several area responders regarding the importance of this type of multi-agency coordinated training.
