The Guilford County Board of Commissioners announces that the presentation of the County Manager’s Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2026–27 will take place during the Board’s Regular Meeting, Thursday, May 7, 2026.
In accordance with North Carolina General Statutes, the Board will formally receive the County Manager’s FY 2026–27 Budget Message, which will be filed with the Clerk to the Board and made available for public inspection.
Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners Melvin "Skip" Alston stated, “We have been very pleased with the County Manager and his team’s efforts throughout this budget preparation process. At the same time, we recognize the real financial pressures many of our residents are facing, as well as the growing demand for essential county services. Over the past several months, the Board has remained actively engaged by holding two Budget Retreats, discussing our goals and priorities during multiple work sessions, and hearing directly from residents through six Budget Town Halls. That level of collaboration and community input is critical to developing a thoughtful, balanced, and responsive budget.
Alston added that the Board looks forward to receiving the Manager’s recommendation and continuing its work toward the adoption of a balanced budget that reflects both the needs of Guilford County and the realities facing its residents. The additional time between the presentation and the Board’s eventual adoption will provide more time for public input as the Board makes deliberations on the budget.
During the May 7 meeting, the Board is also expected to schedule a public hearing on the Manager’s Recommended Budget and proposed economic development incentive grants. The public hearing is scheduled for:

The June 4 public hearing will provide residents, stakeholders, and community partners an opportunity to offer comments and feedback on the proposed budget and related initiatives.
Following the presentation and subsequent public hearing, the Board will continue its budget deliberations in accordance with the established timeline:
- May 7, 2026 - Manager’s Recommended Budget Presentation (Regular Meeting)
- June 4, 2026 - Public Hearing on Recommended Budget
- June 18, 2026 - Anticipated Budget Adoption by the Board of Commissioners
