Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) is currently caring for more than 700 animals, one of the highest point-in-time animal populations in the facility’s history, impacting the department's resources.Due to the overwhelming number of animals in care, the shelter is experiencing extended wait times of two to three hours for individuals bringing in owner surrenders. This temporary delay ensures that each animal receives proper intake evaluation, medical attention, and safe housing.

The Guilford County Department of Social Services Placement and Licensing Unit (DSS), in partnership with the Deuterman Law Group, is hosting a Back-to-School Supply Giveaway and Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the DSS Greensboro Office, 1203 Maple St. in Greensboro. The rain date is Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.Attendees will receive free school supplies (students must be present, while supplies last), face painting, games, community resources, and lunch.
In partnership with Guilford County Districts Courts and Court Support for Families, Guilford County is expanding the Guilford County Legal Support Center to Greensboro. The Legal Support Center opened its first site at the courthouse in High Point in July 2025. The new Legal Support Center site will be located at the Guilford County Courthouse in Greensboro, 201 S. Eugene St. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the center will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 2:30 p.m.

Guilford County is pleased to announce the appointment of Quintana Stewart as its new Health and Human Services Agency Deputy Director. In her new role, Stewart, a Greensboro native, with 23 years of local government experience, will lead more than 1,100 health and human services employees and manage a $140 million budget. Her responsibilities will include supervising departmental budgets, integrating general agency operations, adhering to federal and state statutory requirements, and managing special health and human services initiatives. Her first day is Monday, July 27.

Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) has recently seen an increase in confirmed cases of Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) in our area. This highly contagious virus affects cats—particularly kittens—and can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly. As a result, the GCAS has quarantined multiple stray cat/kitten rooms for the next two weeks to reduce the spread of FPV.
