Walk in to apply for a passport Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., except for county and federal holidays, at the Register of Deeds office, 201 W. Market Street, Room 108 (first floor) in Greensboro room 108. Limited parking is available in the immediate area around the building. Public parking is also available across the street at the Greene Street Parking Deck, 211 S. Greene St., in Greensboro.

Applying for a U.S. Passport Application with Guilford County Passport Services

To apply for a passport in person with the Guilford County Register of Deeds, a person must:

  • Appear in person.
  • Bring a completed passport application. Visit the U.S. Department of State’s official website to download, fill out, and print the DS-11 form before your visit to reduce your office wait time.
  • Provide original or certified evidence of U.S. citizenship (i.e., U.S. birth certificate*, previously issued, undamaged U.S. passport, Certificate of Naturalization, Consular Report of Birth Abroad).
  • Show valid government-issued identification.
  • Bring recent 2″ x 2″ passport photo that meets U.S. Department of State requirements (more information). Photos can be taken on-site for a fee of $10 per applicant.

Passport Fees

Two (2) separate payments are required - one payable to the U.S. Department of State and one to Guilford County Register of Deeds. Please see the flow chart for the U.S. Department of State fees document for more information.

U.S. Department of State Fee

The application fee is payable to the U.S. Department of State by check (personal, certified, cashier's) or money order only (no cash, credit, or debit cards).

Guilford County Register of Deeds Fee

The execution fee ($35) is payable to Guilford County Register of Deeds by cash, check, credit, or debit card. If paid by credit card or debit card, additional fees will apply.

  • Routine Service: four (4) to six (6) weeks.
  • Expedited Service: two (2) to three (3) weeks.

Current Passport Processing Times

Adult passport renewals can be mailed directly to the U.S. Department of State if you meet the requirements.
