"Resuming Operations

Due to space limitations throughout our animal services campus, and the challenge for proper social distancing, Animal Services will slowly be resuming operations for the safety and well-being of staff, volunteers, the public and the animals under our care. The management team is meeting regularly to assess the COVID-19 situation and make operational changes based on:

  • COVID-19 reported cases in Guilford County are on the decline.
  • Animal Services’ staff is healthy and capable of regular operations.
  • Proper animal isolation areas are equipped and functional for potential COVID-19 exposure.
  • Adequate safety equipment and supplies are available for staff.

Hours of Operations for Animal Services will be as follows:

Monday – Sunday: 8am – 5pm

            Adoptions: 11am – 4pm

            Surgery Pick-ups: 4pm – 5pm

            Owner Surrenders: 11am – 4pm

Closed Tuesdays

Public surrendering STRAY (found) animals will continue with no appointment needed.

  • All essential/emergency animal intakes will continue.
  • GCAS will not receive animals that have been trapped by the public.

Pet owners claiming their own animals require no appointment.

  • “Curbside” approach to process continues.
    • Public must check in with Security/Check Point
      • For the safety of everyone, visitors are strongly encouraged to wear face masks.
  • Staff will meet the public outside/parking lot
  • Staff will continue to practice Social Distancing
  • Proper PPE will be worn during public interactions
  • Public will be restricted/limited from entering the building

Rescue Groups/ Transfer Partners continue to pull animals via scheduled appointments.

  • “Curbside” approach to the pulling rescue process continues.
    • Partners must check in with Security/Check Point
      • Partners are strongly encouraged to wear face masks for everyone’s safety.
      • Staff will meet the partner outside/parking lot/yardStaff will continue to practice Social Distancing
      • Proper PPE will be worn during public interactions
      • Partners might be restricted/limited from entering the building

Public will need to make an appointment for adoption.

  • Two adoption appointments scheduled every 30 minutes. 
  • Adoptions open to Guilford County residents only.
  • Adoption fees return to normal price.
  • “Curbside” approach to the adoption process continues.
    • Adopters must check in with Security/Check Point

For the safety of everyone, Adopters/visitors are strongly encouraged to wear face masks.

  • Staff will meet adopters outside/parking lot/yard
  • Staff will continue to practice Social Distancing
  • Proper PPE will be worn during public interactions
  • Public will be restricted/limited from entering the building

Animal Control Officers will continue to respond to emergency and high priority calls.

  • All essential/emergency animal intakes will continue.
  • Animal Control will respond to calls concerning dogs running at large.
  • Will not receive animals that have been trapped by the public.

Owned pet surrender appointments suspended until further notice.

  • All essential/emergency animal intakes will continue.
  • Will not receive animals that have been trapped by the public.
  • “Curbside” approach to the intake process continues.
    • Owners must check in with Security/Check Point

For the safety of everyone, owners/visitors are strongly encouraged to wear face masks.

  • Staff will meet Owners outside/parking lot
  • Staff will continue to practice Social Distancing
  • Proper PPE will be worn during public interactions
  • Public will be restricted/limited from entering the building

Medical services.

  • Spay / Neuter surgeries provided one day per week.
  • Continue to follow recommendations from State Medical Board and Veterinary medical associations.

 Volunteer Program is suspended until further notice.

Community special events are suspended until further notice.

Rabies Clinic

Guilford County Animal Services will resume hosting rabies vaccination clinics for pets. The fee is $5.00 per animal, cash only. Vaccines might be limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to our efforts to keep clients and staff safe, we will be implementing a drive-thru system to better serve our community. Pet owners will be asked to remain in their vehicles with their pets. Date, time, location and additional details will soon be announced.
