Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) has recently seen an increase in confirmed cases of Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) in our area. This highly contagious virus affects cats—particularly kittens—and can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly. As a result, the GCAS has quarantined multiple stray cat/kitten rooms for the next two weeks to reduce the spread of FPV.

Guilford County Animal Services will host a black-tie-themed adoption event celebrating adoptable black cats and dogs on Thursday, June 4, at the Guilford County Animal Resource Center.
The “Black Tail Adoption Event” will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the animal shelter, 980 Guilford College Road, Greensboro.
Community members are encouraged to dress up for the event and help spotlight black pets, which are often overlooked in shelters. Attendees also can enjoy ice cream from Alsies of the Triad.

Precautionary measures are being taken to help prevent the spread of the virus and protect the health and safety of animals currently in care.
The virus was detected in nine cats brought into the Guilford County Animal Resource Center from the Greensboro areas, including Spry Street, Darden Road, and Chadford Place.
Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) is partnering with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to host the Empty the Shelters adoption event from Wednesday, Oct 1. through Wednesday, Oct. 15. The national adoption event offers families an opportunity to adopt a pet at a reduced fee.
During the two-week event, GCAS will offer reduced adoption fees.
• Adult cats and kittens: $65
• Adult dogs and puppies: $55
• Senior dogs and cats, including barn cats: $10
In response to recent confirmed rabies cases in the Jamestown area, Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) is suspending the intake of healthy cats. This measure is being taken out of an abundance of caution and will remain in effect until further notice. GCAS will continue to accept cats that are sick, injured, or pose a danger to the public.

Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) is hosting a Mobile Pet Assistance Clinic (MPAC) on Thursday, July 24 from 12 to 3 p.m. at 710 Huffine Mill Road, Greensboro. The clinic will offer vital resources to local pet owners at no cost.
