Barn Cat Adoption Gallery
Guilford County Animal Services has several healthy cats that are not suitable for indoor living, but would LOVE to come work for you! They are suitable for living in barns, stables, garages, sheds, back porches or any other suitable outdoor/indoor space you're looking to help keep pest free.
All barn cats at the Guilford County Animal Shelter are $10 and come up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and ear tipped. You won’t have to worry about any kittens and should they wander off and get picked up they can be returned to you quickly! All you will need to do is provide them food, water, and someplace to get out of the elements. In return they will help keep your outdoor/indoor area free of pests such as mice, rats, lizards, and bugs.
Once you acquire your new working cat, you’ll need to keep them confined to a small place for two to four weeks while you feed and water them so they can associate their new space as “home base.” Once this is established you can let them free in the area and they should stick around. It is important to have this time for your kitty to acclimate and associate its new surroundings as home. If this is not done, the cat could wander off rather than stay in the area.
If you have any questions about our barn cat program, please feel free to contact us at 336-641-3400 or reach out to us on Facebook.
Working cats are often not cuddly cats. They can be shy or fearful of humans. From time to time we may have handleable cats available, but they typically are made adoptable cats if they can be pet or picked up.
