Guilford County is pleased to announce the promotion of Lori Wright as Deputy Director of Internal Audit.
In her new role, Wright will support the internal audit director in strengthening the department’s operational and strategic initiatives, while helping assess whether county operations are functioning effectively and efficiently, complying with applicable laws, policies, and regulations, and meeting established goals and objectives.
Wright brings more than 12 years of experience in local government, along with an additional 12 years of service within local school systems. Most recently, she served as senior internal auditor for Guilford County. She began working with Guilford County as an internal auditor in 2019.
“We are excited to have Lori step into the role of Deputy Director for the Internal Audit department. Lori’s extensive experience, commitment to quality, and ability to lead complex audits and strategic initiatives will strengthen our department’s mission of promoting accountability and operational excellence across Guilford County,” said Chad Muhlestein, Internal Audit Director.
Wright holds a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from Guilford College and a second bachelor’s degree in forensic accounting from Guilford College. She also earned an associate degree in business administration from Randolph Community College. In 2025, she completed the Municipal and County Administration program through the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government. She earned her Certified Fraud Examiner credential through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in 2017.
Wright assumed her new role on Monday, May 18.
