Deputy Chief Vic Maynard has accomplished and achieved several milestones during his career. After graduating from High Point Central high school in 1981, Deputy Chief Maynard entered the United States Army and attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  He was designated as a Squad Leader, graduated Basic and Advance Training at the age of 17 years old, and received several awards including recognition for being 1 of 12 Battalion Honor Graduates. Eleven combined years were served in the N.C. Army National Guard with numerous commendations received. Deputy Chief Maynard ended his tour honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Deputy Chief Maynard has served on several state and local committees/boards such as M.A.D.D., United Way, NC Governor's Highway Safety Commission and the Juvenile Justice Planning Committee/State Advisory Group Vice Chairman under the Governor's Crime Commission.

During Deputy Chief Maynard’s 35-year career with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, his assignments have included The Detention Division, Patrol Division, Field Training Officer, Special Operations Division, Traffic, Narcotics, Warrant Squad, Domestic Violence Unit, Courthouse Bailiff Division, Training Division, SERT/SWAT Operator and Team Leader. He is a certified Law Enforcement Instructor and has conducted training in several basic and advance tactical courses the last 22 years. Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Maynard has been recognized as one of North Carolina’s highest decorated law enforcement officers, receiving Law Enforcement's highest honors; the Medal of Honor, Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart.

Deputy Chief Vic Maynard serves on the the Sheriff’s Executive Command Staff  and is responsible for leading, organizing, and preparing staff, except in areas reserved for the Sheriff. The Deputy Chief guides staff members in their standard practices while keeping officers abreast of policies and procedures governing their daily details. Deputy Chief Maynard serves as the overall executive commander overseeing the Field Operations Bureau, Legal Process Division, School Resource Officer Division, Community Resource Unit, Communications Specialist and Special Teams/Units.

The Deputy Chief also assist the Sheriff and the Chief Deputy in maintaining the daily operations of the agency by interpreting codes, laws, and ordinances to ensure they are all being upheld. He oversees the administration of field commanders and staff personnel to keep peace and order throughout the county. He shares information with the Sheriff’s Executive team to develop programs aimed at reducing criminal activities while collaborating with other agencies to protect all citizens.
