Guilford Soil & Water Student Conservation Contests are designed to encourage students to apply their understanding of natural processes to the real world, in which they recognize the importance of conserving the processes they depend on. First place winners will advance to Area and State levels. All contests are sponsored by the NC Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts.

Classroom Program
To get your class started with our Conservation Contests, Guilford SWCD offers a hands-on “The Living Soil” classroom program. This program is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts highlighted by the annual theme appropriate to their grade level, and will relate these concepts to local natural resources. The program will also expose students to soil and water conservation practices.

Entry Design
Students are encouraged to further research the conservation theme and package what they have learned into the format of a poster, essay or speech. Entries will be judged on the strength of their conservation message, as well as the effectiveness of their communication of that message to the public. Please make sure to review complete contest entry guidelines in the above contest handbook.

Entry Submission
Entries will be accepted on a rolling basis up to the deadline. Students may submit entries independent of their class, however, school and teacher contact information is still required.

Prize Money
Prize monies will be given in the form of either a VISA or Walmart gift card.
