Each fall, Guilford County Environmental Services brings a wonderful program called, “The Magic of Recycling” to elementary schools throughout the County. The program features a real magician who incorporates information about recycling into an entertaining and engaging magic show for elementary students. Endorsed by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for Guilford County Schools, “The Magic of Recycling” relates directly to both the 2nd and 5th grade curriculum, as specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Shows are presented to a maximum of 350 students at a time. For schools with a higher student population, multiple shows can be scheduled.
This amazing program is provided by Guilford County Environmental Services at no cost to the participating schools. Each performance runs about 45 to 55 minutes, depending on student response. Students learn the basics about the recycling process in general and come away with an understanding of what their local recycling program entails. Shows are scheduled during one week in the fall, usually in September or October. Follow up classroom lessons or school assemblies are also available to provide hands on learning and enrichment opportunities for students.
