Guilford County Parks Announce Service Changes

Aquatic centers will not open this season

Post Date:07/01/2020 1:54 PM
Guilford County Parks will not open any of the three aquatic centers, which are located at Hagan-Stone Park, Bur-Mil Park, and Northeast Park, this summer due to COVID-19.
After consultation with public health officials, staff and parks professionals across the state, the County decided it could not open aquatic centers while meeting the public health guidance in a public swimming pool environment. The safety of employees and visitors is the number one concern.
“We have spent considerable time studying how we could operate our pools safely, maintain a consistent guest experience, and remain good stewards of county funds, but we don’t think there is a truly sustainable approach,” said Christopher Horrigan, Guilford County Parks Director. “We’re hopeful we’ll be able to offer more activities at our facilities in the upcoming weeks.
Guilford County Parks is operating other services in accordance with State and County regulations associated with COVID-19. Shelter rentals, up to the maximum allowable capacity of 25 guests, are available. The Hagan-Stone Park Campground is open at 50% capacity. All Meeting and Special Event Centers, which are located at Bur-Mil Park, Hagan-Stone Park, and Northeast Park, will remain closed at this time.
Playgrounds remain closed at this time, but athletic fields and courts are open for general use or training, with the exception of basketball courts. Scrimmages and games will remain prohibited.
All Guilford County parks, trails, and open spaces will remain open to the public with modified hours. Staff continues to encourage visitors to practice social distancing and remain at home if you feel unwell.
